In the last chapter of the Bible Jesus in His message to the churches pronounces, “I am coming quickly”. He does so three times which leads me to believe that He wants no one to miss the message. (Rev 22:7, 12, 20) In fact the last time He states that it is sure. There is no doubt about it.
In Revelation chapter three He revealed to the church of Philadelphia that they would be kept from the hour of trial that shall come upon the whole earth. (v. 10) This hour of trial that impacts the whole earth is also referred to as the tribulation. In Matthew Jesus said that this time would include great tribulation, the worst that would ever occur on earth. (24:21) The church of Philadelphia would be kept out of this time because they were faithful to the Lord. They kept His word and did not deny His name. (Rev 3:8) And He says to them, “Behold I am coming quickly. Hold fast what you have that no one take your crown.”(3:11)
“Behold I am coming quickly” is a promise to the faithful. It is an encouragement to them. It is a motivation to them to continue to be His witnesses, to be disciple making, and to continue as a fully function family to the very end.
Are you caught up in the pursuit of the things of this world? Have the philosophies of men captured your thinking? Or have you caught a glimpse of the Savior and have come to understand that “one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” (Luke 12:15) You have come to believe that in Him is life and know “when Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” (Col 3:4)
My experience has been that those of the first group, pursuing the things of this world, really do not want to think about Jesus returning. The latter are pursuing God and readily agree with the apostle John, “Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus!” Who or what will you be chasing after today – the things that are temporary or the things that are eternal?
