“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20)
“I know what you’re thinking – Did he fire six shots or only five?” snarls Dirty Harry to the bank robber reaching for his gun. “Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I’ve kinda lost track myself.” The robber stares at the detective trying to decide his next move. “You’ve got to ask yourself one question,” Harry spits, “Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk?”
Now there was a life or death choice! Fortunately most people don’t end up on the wrong side of Dirty Harry, but in a sense we all have to make the same choice that bank robber did: Do we choose Life or Death?
God pretty much screams at us to choose life. Why? Because He is life; He is the Author of life. He loves us and choosing life means we can receive His love and we can return His love. Choosing life places our steps back onto the path of God-dependent living. Choosing life means we can embrace His plans, His purposes, and His will for our lives.
The Bible tells us “God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.” (Matthew 22:32) It explains that “He gives to all life, breath, and all things” and “in Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:25, 28) Psalm 139 details how we are fearfully and wonderfully made in the womb. Psalm 71 assures us even to our gray hairs life is precious and priceless. Our Creator indeed holds life and the length of our days in His loving hands.
Christians should know and understand that our Heavenly Father is pro-choice and pro-life. If we are truly His children then we are pro-choice and pro-life. And we always choose life for that is His clear and stated will.
Why then do so many of our own number speak and do and vote in unison with those who kill and steal and destroy the lives of the unborn and the infirm? They are like Adam and Eve – they are making the wrong choice.
